Low-Income Families’ Costs will Soar if Repeal Bill Goes Through

The League of Women Voters (LWV) of the St. Petersburg Area is calling all concerned citizens to an emergency meeting on March 14 regarding the Congressional legislation to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the US House’s plan to move this Repeal Bill through to completion prior to month’s end.  The event will be chaired by the St. Petersburg LWV President, and LWV Florida Board Member, Dr. Julie Kessel, M.D.

The meeting and workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 14 from 6:00pm to 8:30 pm.
Allendale United Methodist Church, 3803 Haines Rd North, St. Petersburg.

Dr. Kessel will discuss the US House’s Repeal Bill and its harmful impacts to the ACA. She will also give an overview of advocacy tactics that could defeat this legislation. This will be followed by an intensive workshop by the national organization, Housing Works, on actions local citizens can take to influence legislation.
“If this bill passes as many as 15 million people will lose their insurance,” said Kessel. “Medicaid services will be harshly underfunded.”

The information presented is appropriate for anyone who cares about increasing access to health care, from first-time advocates to experienced lobbyists.
