Australian LGBTQ Leaders Call on Parliament to “Get Marriage Equality Done”

| November 28, 2017

GayStarNews reports: “The Australian people ‘roared back YES’ to marriage equality and now it’s time for parliament to do its job.”

More than 160 LGBTI organizations and leaders have signed a joint statement calling on the Australian Parliament to recognise the will of the people and ensure marriage equality is passed by the end of the year.

Australians just voted in favor of changing the law to allow same-sex couples to marry in a postal survey on the issue.

Now, parliament is debating the proposed Bill, with conservative politicians calling for increased ‘religious freedoms’ in any marriage equality legislation.

But LGBTI leaders say parliament must follow the will of the people and legislate for marriage equality as soon as possible.
