Author to Speak on the Topic of Elder LGBT Sexuality
Tuesday, January 30, noon – 1 pm
Gulfport Public Library, 5501 28th Ave S, Gulfport

Dr. Jane Fleishman will offer a presentation on the topic of the sexual lives of older LGBTQ community members on Tuesday, January 30 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Gulfport Public Library, 5501 28th Avenue South in Gulfport, Florida.  The event is free and open to the public.  Attendance by adults only is suggested.  The presentation is a “lunch and learn” event at the Library, and attendees are invited to bring their own “brown bag” lunch and beverages.

Scant research has been conducted about the sexual lives of older adults in LGBTQ communities, particularly the lesbian community.  Dr. Fleishman, a sexuality researcher intrigued by the intersection of sex, politics, and aging will describe some of the key findings of her research into the sexual lives of LGBT older adults. This presentation is a sneak preview of Fleishman’s new book, Coming of Age at the Time of Stonewall, about ordinary people living through extraordinary times — LGBT elders who came of age at the time of the Stonewall Rebellion. Two “icons” of the local lesbian community, Edie Daly and Jackie Mirkin, also will read from their sections of the book.  Discussion and time for questions and answers will follow Dr. Fleishman’s presentation.

The event is presented by the Gulfport Public Library’s LGBTQ Resource Center.  The Resource Center provides collections, services and events throughout the year to the local LGBTQ community, its friends and family, and is a project of the non-profit Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library.  Find out more about the Resource Center, the Circle of Friends and the Library on the web at or on Facebook at
