The first Tampa Bay 2010 Dog Games
February 20th at SPCA Tampa Bay, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In celebration of the Winter Olympics, the SPCA Tampa Bay will host a one day series of canine presentations and competitions to promote obedience and healthy activities for both pet owner and canine.
SPCA Tampa Bay is located at 9099 130th Ave N in Largo.
Presentations for each activity will be made during the day by experienced handlers and dogs. 2 events, Agility and Flyball will be managed by The Dog Training Club of St. Petersburg. Interested pet owners and their canines are encouraged to participate in event competitions to take home the Gold, Silver or Bronze medals. Events include:
Amateur Agility: Dog handlers help steer owner and dog through an obstacle course in a race for time and accuracy.
Flyball – Relay Race for Dogs: This team sport consists of 4 dogs that run a traditional relay must race through obstacles and hurdles to catch a ball.
Canine Freestyle (Dancing with Dogs): This popular sport is a set of choreographed steps to music that pet owners and dogs dance to.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC): This 10-step test is designed for Pit and Pit/Mix dogs and is open to all breeds. Dogs that exhibit good manners at home and in our community are rewarded. All dogs that pass are eligible to receive a Canine Good Citizen certificate from the American Kennel Club. For every certified Pit Bull or Pit Bull mix that passes the test, Animal Farm Foundation makes a $150 donation to the SPCA Tampa Bay ’s homeless pets.
Dogs must be current on their rabies vaccinations to participate. All dogs coming to the event must be on a leash.
